What is a porcelain crown?

A porcelain crown is essentially a dental treatment for teeth that have suffered from tooth decay, cavities, fractures, teeth grinding, discoloration, and more — crowns do it all.

A tooth-shaped cap that fits perfectly over your real tooth, a crown is put in place to help return strength, shape, and size back to your damaged or decayed tooth.

Once the crown is fabricated and fitted to your tooth, it will completely cover the visible portion of your damaged tooth, ensuring an attractive, streamlined look for your smile.

What is a porcelain crown used for?

Dentists use porcelain crowns to treat an array of dental issues, from discolored or misshapen teeth to cracked or fractured teeth. A crown can even help teeth that have been affected by a root canal.

A porcelain crown will give your damaged tooth strong, lasting coverage that looks and feels just like your natural teeth — only better.

In addition to fixing existing teeth problems, a porcelain crown can also help strengthen your teeth for the future.

A crown will keep your teeth as strong as possible, protecting damaged teeth from further fracture or decay.

With a perfectly fitted crown, you will also notice a huge improvement in painful biting, chewing, and teeth grinding.

How can I get fitted for a porcelain crown?

If a porcelain crown seems like the right option for you, the experts at Diamond Care Dental will schedule you for two appointments: one to prepare your tooth for the crown and a second to fit it onto your natural tooth.

During your first appointment, your dentist will use an anesthetic to ensure your comfort while you get the perfect fit for your porcelain crown.

Once there is enough space to fully cover your damaged, decayed, or discolored tooth, your dentist will give you a temporary crown, allowing you to return to your normal schedule while you wait for your new crown.

It will take about two weeks for the dental team to have your lab-created crown made, during which time you should avoid sticky foods as a precaution.

During your second appointment, your dentist will fit you for your brand new porcelain crown. Schedule your appointment with Dr. Naina at Diamond Care Dental for your crown visit today!
